I always read a verse with the view it should be audible, even if the writer has no plan of saying it out loud, thats how words work, we use them to speak. Pretty simple really.

You start saying text doesn't apply to audio then you open the door to all manner of ridiculously forced wordplay. you have to remember Texters are in the minority. Most people who write lyrics do so with the intention of reciting them out loud, as do a good portion of of those already in the minority texters, so with that said you have to abide by the same set of rules that come with that.
