I lay Awake in the face of this blatant devastation
The city that that never sleeps, I know for sure it was awake then
But our eyes were still blurry, tears from the events we couldn't take in
Couldn't make sense of weapons made from technological innovations
'In a sense' of youth that's something I wasn't prepared to see
But it's the unbiased mind of a child that sees with perfect clarity
So my heart goes out to the families, and I keep the thoughts of the lost near to me
My head is still spinning It just doesn't seem fair to me
My childish imagination reenacts the forefronts of the terror scene
I'm trying to talk over the intercom but no one seems to be hearin me
I choke on the microphone my breath is stale but the air is clean
Trying to ward off panic as the instruments edge on unfamiliarity
I look over to my partner and his little girl is there with him
"Everything's gonna be alright, just a tiny error in the system"
Our eyes make contact, his shines with a clear decision
We both get up, stand straight, He salutes the air I dismiss 'im
I see him choke back a few tears, water decides to spare his vision
It's found a new target, a victim of despair with no one there to witness
I tell myself not to do it but the natural man is just too scared to listen
Plus it's hard to concentrate with your heart racin as it sees us near the finish
Fuck whoever said that death would only take a moment
It took a lifetime and a second plus I had time to make a poem
"We spend the first half of our lives trying to start and the rest we're trying to stop it
We take so long finding cards for the bets we're trying to pocket
But in life the house always wins, the only case where there's no fighting with logic
These were the cards you were dealt, others were affected but that's just life in the cockpit
