The money goes into the government. I'm not a conspiracy theorist or any of that bullshit, but the government needs money to sustain the country. The more money, the better job they do. There will always be scandals and stuff with banks, but a banker getting an extra 10k is like me or you phoning in sick when really we couldnt be bothered working. At the end of it all, roads, schools, hospitals, police etc. is where all that tax money goes. Welfare takes money out of it, but lets take welfare out of the equasion. Say it never existed. Do you think that you'll have more money? It's like giving up smoking without saving every penny. Technically, you should see more money, but the money just gets spent randomlly throughout the day anyways and you never actually get more. Taxes is the same. You remove welfare and as Just C, stealth taxes will continue to rise and you'll have just the same amount at the start. You can blame people on welfare for the lack of a good education or the lack of roads if you want, but you can't say that you're paying for their welfare. Your taxes are always going to be the same. Will they ever complete the road systems and just drop off a big chunk of your money, or will they relocate the money into another sector? What makes more sense in that?

Child Support and stuff is there because mistakes happen. A society isn't about the successful people. People with misfortune and mistakes the still part of the society. Society is what it is so that everyone can help each other along. If theres a weak leg, they don't amputate it straight off, they try to help it recover. Welfare isn't there for people to survive for ever, but really that's on the people themselves. Welfare is supposed to be there to help people get back on their feet. If they are more comfortable staying on welfare, then oppertunities have to be given to them. FaS is a big employment system in Ireland. Years ago, they'd send out job oppertunities to people. Now, they don't even do it any more. It's like they've given up. I was forced into the Jobs Club a few months ago, and the people there didn't even know how to make a CV. It have everyone an idea of where they want to go and what they want to do. If this was the case everywhere, people are getting forced back into employment over sitting about doing nothing. The taxes going into roads and shit should be going into getting the unemployed sector working, if anything it just means employed people = taxes = more money.

But then again, I'm like any dude in the world pretending he could run the country. Realistically governments actually do a cracking job, and you never hear of the good side from any of them.
