I'm late on this but actually thought the opening ceremony was quaintly British, loved the whole Shakespeare/Industrial Revolution tie-in and thought letting the athletes of the future light that eventual column was ill.

Paul McCartney seemed to be struggling for his voice during the closing ceremony though...
