Hardly 'ghettos' over here in the UK.. There's nice places and bad places just like everywhere else. Some parts of London are probably the worst in England. Scotland has some rough as hell areas (I know coz I've been there and got jumped lol) Ireland has some rough areas (I know coz I've been there and almost got stabbed to death for being the 'wrong religion' as they said it)

It just all depends where you go, who you are, and who you know, to be honest. Like where Im living - I feel quite safe coz I've lived here for 16 years now and I basically know everyone (that I need to know) within a 4-5 mile radius. But if I went out of my area to the more built up places of Manchester.. Then I'd be out of my comfort zone coz I wouldn't know many people.
