The greater than and less than signs are html tags. I think by using those you're confusing the site into think there's html code there which it wouldn't display. I would discourage you from using those in the future. In fact I would say you shouldn't use any of that shit at all. It's unnecessary for one and two it takes away valuable character space that you could otherwise use. I bet if you took all that crap out of there you could fit another bar into your verse.
