This is widely used by a select few if that makes any sense. And they mark these events with numbers as a signature. Since certain numbers have certain meanings, the other members in these frats with an understanding of what codes to look for know exactly what's going on.
It's like if you and I have certain hand gestures that represent concepts/ideas/words and I'm on TV one day using these hand gestures nonchalantly
You'll know the different messages I'm sending over TV as will anyone else who shares that hand gesture language with me
One thing to keep in mind with secret societies and frats is that a lot of them are compartmentalized. Meaning lower level dudes think they're in some regular frat. Those above them are privy to more things, such as where the dues ($$ paid monthly) are allocated, such as certain texts & books that are restricted until you pass your proficiency exam (I'm using freemasonry as an example), etc etc. So let's say freemasonry is broken off into 10 sub sections (think of a food pyramid) where 1 level of access/information is removed for each level you descend on the pyramid.
This is a perfect way to retain power, because you're allowing others into your 'inner circle', when in fact there's inner circles within your inner circle and you're teasing initiates that have a thirst for knowledge with the idea that they too can ascend the degrees and have your level of discernment and expertise on esoteric matters
