Firstly, I probably would never HIT a woman. It's not even a moral thing, more just a decision.

But here's my take on it:-

A woman that hits a man is using an advantage. She believes the man CAN'T hit her back. This advantage, imo, is just the same as the advantage in strength between a man and a woman. If the woman hits first, it's fair game for the guy to hit her back (palm slap style).

In some situations, like a woman is attempting to take your life with a gun/knife etc., then it's fair game to treat her exactly like you would a man.
