Obviously they manipulated "weak minded" people But Books and shows like this will always turn to the 1's like the above to get inspiration and even exagerate the circumstances/charm/level of control.

Tbh though I always seen Dexter as a cross between a film noir and a comic book character so I roll with it.

If you can suspend disbelief you're good to go. If you can't and you're a cynic who has to have everything by the book and grounded in reality. You're always going to struggle with a show like Dexter. I mean this isn't The Wire we're talking about
