Hover your mouse over the battle icon at the top of the page. (there's a row of icons) A drop down menu will appear with 6 options. Click on either "Start Text Battle" or "Start Audio Battle" and then just take it from there.

If you want to send a private battle or battle a specific person, check out the "Text Lounge" or "Audio Lounge" of the forums, you'll find some good battlers in there who will be willing to battle.

Also, you can click on "View Battles" have a look at the sites recent/new battles. If there is a battle sitting in the middle panel (Open Battles) you can reply those as well.
