Sopposedly It ties in to the rating or strength of your opponent... back at goldmic each member had a rating ex.. 1500 and below that were two numbers....+24/-13. these numbers represented how much u gained or lost..rate/pointwise.. if u battled that particular opponent..so if u were a lowly noob and battled a top tier or highly rated opponent.. the point spread would look something like this +75/-4. best part about this system is if a person wit a high rank due to many wins..it discourages him from tryin to battle rookies or easy prey because he could very well lose 75 points ..in the process ..wish lb had a similar system set up.. that was easy for peeps to see..its almost like waging..your points in battles..
