to me lyrical is just having a way with words...being a punchline rapper doesn't automatically make you lyrical imo...its when some one has a way of putting words together that just cant be denied...just my opinion tho

To me, Lyrical is being able to seemlessly control the language that you are rapping in as if you created it. Having the upmost syllabic fluidity and being able to stray from the normal language barriers and use colorfully abstract words to paint your picture in a unique, undone way. This is why Aesop Rock is my favorite emcee.

If I make leery calls does that make it lyrical?

Lyrical is being able to use complex schemes while telling/projecting a strong cohesive story/message that invokes the emotion you set out to trigger whether play heavy or straight laced.

that would make Slick Rick the most lyrical emcee then

I always thought being lyrical was using big vocab and extra dope flow. But I think like these guys are saying its about all that stuff to.

I think it can range from artwork to books to music... It's just a writers way of expression done in a creative way imo

yes my opinion maybe bias because slick rick's one of my favorite emcees
but you could basically close your eyes and he would paint the picture in a story

always thought GZA from Wu-Tang was lyrical when I was younger in HS
but his lyrics don't really make much sense now that i'm older (25)
