The Quarter Finals were another solid week where we saw just one no show. I’ll start on that, and say that the no show was by Dirty Work. Months ago, he informed us in the crew that he sick. He had an operation (and still posted) during the 2nd week, and in the 3rd he took a turn and had to go back in. He kept me up to date on everything, so I appreciate it and hope you’re doing alright man. The people that went out showed a lot of skill, and it leaves the question, who are the last men standing?

Iron Mike
Although only two topicals to vote on, Mike showed that he had a good understanding of topicals and managed to drop his votes with an insightful in helpful manner, whilst describing well why he was voting the way he did. Appreciate it man.

The Hourglass Path

Existence is contained in an individual system
Mandated via focused attention in a visual prism
An hourglass, as hours pass gentle grains plummet softly
As do people who slip through, peaceful, while the sun sits glossy
Irradiating important instances in a golden haze
Holds it's rays of molten blaze over events from olden days
We're told to gaze upon the past through the narrow waist
But let sands of time's bandage blind like in a pharaohs place
Those we don't interact with fall below, where the trash is
All alone, barely ashes, where cold winter's grasp hits
While stronger personas muster past the minimum
Struggle to hold position in the upper half continuum
Though without active mindfulness they won't find full bliss
Destined to slip into the unkempt environments
Sun-swept retirement where they wait to be entombed
Since the lost of last lives is blatantly assumed

I left a lot behind, that dirty rotten crime
Mixed minutes with messy people, the down trodden kind
Slowly switched spots, in time, for better things
A nice life with the wife type and tempered rings
I let her bring direction, substitute for substances
The extra push to start busting through, be done with this
Which worked, until my butterfly had begun to die
Left to wonder why I caught her with another guy
Not even yesterday, when better ways spanned the horizon
Still have no answers for why and damn that I'm cryin
In a park in the dark and I shouldn't be there again
Found an old friend, empty eyes that I'm starin in
Isn't rememberin me, I should be scared of him
My familiar host approaches with my old heroine, heroin

Went beyond, never gave a second though to the sour past
Until I saw you today and it flipped my hourglass

TRAPPED IN A HOURGLASS

INTRODUCTION

It all takes place in no dream, neither a sequel of death,
In an hourglass with no sand – its people instead,
a place with no reason to feel gleeful and blessed,
Kronus is the keeper, his mind so evil and messed,
Flips the hourglass once a year, that day’s full of yearly whimpers
‘cause the ones to drop first either die or are severely injured
durability and your stance on this day makes official your safety
we get the strength from nutrients by sucking the nipples of ladies,
they know the importance of their breast so they aint gigglin’ greatly
cause that’s our only source of food, it doesn’t seem civil, it’s crazy
but we suck solely for that day, to endure every obstacle
so we can live on and see if getting out will ever be possible…
there’s a myth that if you’re out of here and into the wide and open
one will evolve from mini size to the size of Kronus.
As we lived on as some died, we’ve gotten further acquainted
shared our hopes and dreams via murmurs and waited..

DAY 358 - ONE WEEK BEFORE ROTATION

Still don’t remember how I got here or how long its been
that we have been here and lived on without oxygen
and now there’s only one female remaining
and without her, we’d easily die, so we tried to keep on retaining.
while standing in line for the nipple, I looked up and saw
what appeared to be a little hole on the side of the middle
I had to tell William the Wisest but Crippled
from the many times he has survived in this pickle
he was ahead of the line, so I left this spot
and tapped his shoulder as he turned and asked “you have a question, Scott? “
I gently pulled him out the line cause he was weakly jointed
and went to my spot where I told him “look” as I discretely pointed
and his eyes widened, whispered “Eureka, this best not be a blasted reverie”
as he blinked tightly, taking pics with his photographic memory
did some things with his hands and said “My god”, yet he claimed Athiest
he said “that hole is too small, we need someone with the same radius.”
He spent some time going around mentally measurin’ ones
from their shoulder to the middle of their head till he said “better give up”
till he realized he aint check me out like a libraries’ television
and he mentally measured then smiled and said “yes let’s end this mission!”
“we got to get you trained in strength for this exit that you came upon,
this is our only chance Scott, you’re the one that can save us all!”

DAY 364 – MINUTES BEFORE DAY OF ROTATION

William made calculations to determine where’s the perfect spot
so I got myself positioned whilst standing like a nervous mom
now Kronus appeared as expected, he’s about to turn this clock
and now it’s my show until the curtains drop.
he turned it 180 degrees quickly so no time was wasted
and we all began to fall, my heart beating, all tight n racin’,
the hole was coming quick, I was questioning whether I can make it
and before I knew it I was hanging on, tighter than the eyes of Asians
I looked down to see cryin’ faces, hit the bottom, and their movements ruined,
and William passed by giving me a look that said “you can do this”
so I climbed “nervously, feeling badass” like first time truant students
as I climed and I easily fit through like some diluted fluid
crawled through and fell on to the surface of this strange dimension
I immediately looked at Kronus and I saw his face with tension
but luckily, it was to the hourglass that he paid attention
and all of a sudden I felt a rather quaint ascension
the myth was true! I “rose” like the US embassy
he was sitting cross-legged, my shadow towered and then he
turned around. I felt like Marley; the way he stared dreadfully
with his eyes poppin’ like Goodman, he got up and fled the scene
My kind are finally relieved, I shared their empathy
as I grabbed the hourglass, peered and said “we have changed ourdestiny.”

Purgatory's Most Wanted

How I got to Purgatory!

I was ready locked and loaded with enough weapons to seize war
Grenades, Assault Rifles, Shotguns, and a couple crates packed with C-4
This killing spree will be the greatest of all time as I tumble down this wicked descent
Prepared to murder thousands at disney world's biggest event
My whole crew exits the vehicles, and begins rigging up the bombs
And I give a smirk to all the little children clinging to their moms
Suited up, with our weapons drawn we begin tearing families apart
Shredding bodies, exploding rides.. You can hear the beat of the countries heart
But within due time, I would be caught and killed by america's most profound agents
And became one of the sickest members of purgatory in the making

Purgatory

I wake up viewing just a wooden house and an uncovered horizon
With all kinds of evil characters crazy enough to live on shutter island
Walking next to the likes of Charles Albright, and Benjamin Atkins
and Little Iraqi children trying to deliver every person a package
Ted Bundy and Albert Fish having a feast in the home
Jeffery Dahmer picking the last bit of meat off the bone
And me, one of the most evil beings. This is the perfect wish
I plop my white ass next to the 'son of sam', David Berkowitz
After we ate, I continued to check out my new environment
I realized this was an evil and sickly insane retirement
I saw Dennis Rader and Gary Ridgway out in the back
Charles Mansan and Bin Ladin having a chat
I always thought the devil would punish us in the cruelest way
Even the Zodiac Killer was working with his crew of slaves
This was like heaven to me, but there had to be reason I'm immortal
So I walked up and decided to ask some questions to Dean Corll
Where are we? I thought for my murders I'd end up in satan's basement

"You are! But he keeps us together, the top ranked we are the devil's favorite
We live forever, and get to achieve every evil thing that we deserve
We are here to become the most sinister demons in the universe
This is a school for the insane, those with the most wicked brilliance
We are here to be prepared to become Lucifers' gifted children"

With that said, I continued to learn about my father's earth
To torture the world, possess and cause havoc among gods followers
After some time we were all ready for our departure back into the world
To tear the minds off men, and destroy the hearts of heaven's little girls
The next stage of our lives await, we are lucifers golden staff
So before we depart, Rodney Alcala snaps the greatest class photograph

There is nothing RULE hasn’t sought out in his domination of LB, and the topical title is one of them. Just one month before RULE signed up for the topical tournament, he doubted his own abilities in that sector. After signing up, he was quickly pegged as a favourite, earning himself another trophy for his vast collection.
RULE is one of the few writers who has allowed his battling abilities to translate over to topicals. His lyricism and ability to stay on topic is unrivalled. You can read along his entire verses like a fluid story, no issues or stumbles, not even realizing that you’ve been crossing 6 and 7 syllable rhyme schemes the entire way through.
Since winning the championship, RULE has yet to venture back into topicals, and writing in general. Having shown interest in returning for one of our upcoming PPV cards, you can be sure it’s not the last we’ve seen of RULE in the storytelling sector.

Passages of Transgression

The trauma of abuse is never fully erased from someone’s memory..
As it seeps through mental seams and creases revealing buried treachery..
With choices to either endure or collapse; they suffice to double jeopardy..
Individuals with no family rituals usually never share feelings sympathetically..
In the shoes of those dealing with life’s trials seeking aesthetic revival..
And we frown as the world cries behind millions of full broken smiles..
The antagonists always regrettably suffer from the memories of lost ones..
A
N
D
Though what we write; we express the pain and suffering of victims poetically..

[Broken Homestead]
(Skepytk Ill)

Susie's situation never adds up, like a broken fraction..
With low rations, malnutrition Susie constantly basks in..
He's watching closed captions, her fathers hopes passing..
His cloaked passions, always amount to provoked actions..
The flow of his anger, weighs down steady like a boats anchor..
Her fathers verbal abuse when he starts to loath & spank her..
Susie's simple mistake like life’s questions, riddles her fate..
Still Believing she's belittled waste, by this slithering snake..
Susie's always thinks of the pain, the world kinks her brain..
She links the chain, seeming powerless she sinks in shame..
With open wrists, her emotions mixed, a fate sealing blunder..
Constantly reaping ponders, she's confused her feelings wonder..
Hatred looms' soon a chalked loner, sitting in dark corners..
With slit wrists ready to be shipped to a over, stocked coroner..
Never losing fear all Susie hears is her fathers, loud voice..
A haunting loud noise, in his eye's she's not allowed choice..
Well this choice she made, Susie felt so alone these days..
When a child doesn't feel safe, there existence & beliefs fade..

[R.I.P SUSIE]

[Broken Free]
(Meta Verse)

Her vision’s all blurred, as she listens in hurt for the imminent turn
Liquored up, he’ll lift up her skirt; skin’ll be rifted with cigarette burns
His stale breathe on her nakedness, she can but pray in her fettered wreck
Flaying the belt to her breasts, she knows his panting n sweating begets
The prizing between her thighs, he’ll take his prize despite her cries
She lives a lie, wishes to die, but she’s habitually tied in nights of reprise

But one morning…

In the vestibule of Jenny’s school, a teacher’s view arrests her cool
“I’m no fool, Jen’s breaking rules and Laney, I can tell you’re bruised”
She breaks down in tears, the placated layers of faking it shaken
Scared to partake in the conversation, has to escape from the situation
Now that somebody knows her soul’s been encroached - and it shows
Takes Jen home, and waits for the phone or the doorbell to go, but no…
No facing the shame, the day 'she'll' break from from the cage, HER way
Stirred and afraid, but her mind’s been made as she climbs the staircase
Tears billow over her baby, heaves on the pillow till the squirming allays
Her cradle a grave, but now he can’t EVER make her little girl a slave
Pops a bottle of Moggies; her eyes to the sky for Gods exoneration.
Just a mama like many, may she have been met with an Angels ovation

[RIP LANEY & JENNY]

[Broken Dreams]
(Vandahl)

Left Frightened by the next time his father’s hands might slip..
A benighted child had sights of high flights, so he invited slits..
As he tightened his grip, he recited precise slices to his wrists..
Facing all his strife with fists, wishing his life didn’t even exist..
Never sufficing to expectations; he was made to pay the price..
Forced contrite from his father he imagined embracing a knife..
Visions of the projects he resided in covered in flames & ignited..
He wanted a happy family, but when he looked at his; disgrace..
And the feeling of hate never divided the cold suffocating pain..
For family portraits, there’s none with Billy surrounded by frames..
Cause daddy went insane connecting a stove burner to Billy’s face..
Like cloth with indelible stains, there’s vivid strain in his brain..
Since Billy came into his life, daddy played psychological games..
Always one to blame, even if he never struggled getting straight A’s..
Steven was always ashamed; his son was the definition of lame..
Finally he overcame, dreams and reality would never be the same..
No second thoughts, he knew exactly where to point and aim..
Billy pulled the trigger and lodged three bullets in his brain..

[R.I.P BILLY]

[Broken Spirit]
(EtH)

Nathan, once a sufferer of his father’s awful abuse..
Abusing both Nathan and the alcohol he consumes..
Undeniable damage, in his own domain; he’s afraid..
Until Nathan manifests a friend to relieve his pain..
Ricocheting the hurt, his friend removes his dad’s hits..
Sheltering exposed emotions; he endures the damage..
Now his counterpart takes his place, crying in bed..
Building up a burning anger, only satisfied by revenge..
Late at night, he creeps to the father and covers his head..
Patiently awaiting the stillness of his stomach and chest..
He became a murderer then on, while his dad’s asleep..
Now the fulfilled child must split the scene, like the personality..
Though escape is impossible, whether or not he is trying to run..
Nathan disappears after he finds what his trusted ally had done..
Now he sits holding his knees, crying with laughter..
The original, Nathan, laid the rest, he died with his father..

[R.I.P NATHAN]

[Out of Control]
(Konquerer)

It's been....
Seven harsh years since this home was flooded with tears..
Forced to switch gears, cause the consequences were severe..
Cameron was the American Boy, quiet but daring and coy..
He fulfilled his urge out of joy, & now he's scared of the noise..
And often out of rejoice, he shutters at the sound of her voice..
But his mind plays tricks when he's stuck with a life changing choice..
He rests in the jail cell reminiscing the day when he went missing..
Looking back at his childhood when was keen on simple wishing..
For a father that would listen or a mother that didn't abandon him..
Drained after putting up with banter, abuse and the slander fits..

[Seven Years Ago]
Fresh bruises on his pale skin, from a father who looked down on them..
Sneaks away to escape from it, but a sea of violence crashes over him..
Spying a beautiful girl from afar, gathers the guts to heal his scars..
Attacking the brightest star, made her undress in the back of his car..
Screams echo off the aluminum frame, an animal that can't be tamed..
Raped to cover up his pain, causing more hurt than the power he gained..

It's mail time at the prison, but no letters come- everyone resents him..
A life behind bars is where the rape gets him, back in a place dying to fit in..
Inevitable

[B][R.I.P CAMERON]

[Conclusion]
The world transgresses, sometimes seems bereft of blessings
Human essence, under test, we wonder if these evanescent
Lives will be remembered, so many times the truth is hidden
By the icy weathers of trepidation, every nation’s cruelty sitting
In the reflection of blind eyes, a cyanide of the human condition
But the pen can scribe against this plight, a truly altruistic mission

I’d go to the ends of the earth’ he said ‘through thick and thin’ he promised
‘Under the oceans, over the skies, through deserts and rainforests.’
With knowing smile and eyes beguiled she nodded, slow in silence
For she alone had always known their love shall fade to violence.

Ignorant of fate’s own script, he’d walked towards her blindly
So struck by her he stuttered, tripped, she’d looked upon him kindly
From that first glance he knew he’d be her heart’s eternal keeper
But she, with sorry wisdom, knew the story ran much deeper.
Eternal and undying have sad meanings more than metaphor
Her everlasting love would really trickle on for ever more.
She’d see her children’s children lose their childhoods, lose their lives
See solid walls collapse and fall, see justices deprived.

The existential longing left her wrecked in isolation
So finding a companion soon became her sole vocation.

His lustful eyes had locked on her, sought out her soul unblinking
Her search for love was over, and she stared right back, unthinking
Of the consequence, in warm pursuit of truce
Forgetting that her love comforts the mortal like a noose.

On finding out her secret, though illogical it seems
He fast embraced her nonsense truth and wallowed in their dreams
Love’s preternatural turbulence then faded into air
The air on which she walked with him, gave gravity no care.

The honeymoon, the teenage lust was felt to be exquisite
But soon she felt the urge to push the thesis to the limit.
She’d never need a life support if she could never die
Soon it became a gloomy sport to let her lover try.
“Kiss me like you hate me, oh just hurt me like you love me.
Let your fists rain down on me from high when you’re above me.”
For him, she was his miracle, his Heaven-gifted property
For her, she felt the richness of existence fade to poverty.

“Meet me atop the cliffs my love, and let me share my heart”
For now she saw the ending that was clear from the start
She pushed him to the cliff-edge, there he learnt of her dark art
Through tear-streaked lips she whispered soft “Until death do us part.”

The Law: Must say at the opening lines and the picture I thought this was going to be some cheesy twilight saga drop lol. But the approach you brought was pretty good. I enjoyed reading it. The was a few hiccups with flow because I some of the wording was messed up in your lines, but for the most it was all on point. Your vocab usage was nice but your vocab placement was a little off, moreorless, that would go into the wording category. But I definitely enjoyed how both of them had there separate feelings about each other. I thought the ending was a nice way to close it off also. Imagery could have been touched up a little bit more. But for the most part your normal polishing and rewording would do the trick here. It was a decent drop and I enjoyed it.

Hello
Howdy...Wait that sounds wack...What up
Oh, Woody, what is Buzz up to these days?
You know, still searching for Zurg. Apparently robbed his galactic belt
That happened to me last week. It sucks. So how did you like your first dive into topicals?
It was hard to adjust to, being used to the battle scene and all, but it was nice to see the diversity in creativity among everyone
How do you feel you did?
I was honestly pretty impressed with myself. i mean, before rapping i started off story telling with rhythm when i was 9. Some shit happened and it just faded away, the motivation anyway. And then in this tourney, I see that the ability is still there
I used to write down shitty songs on A4 pieces of paper when I was 9 haha. What specific aspects of writing do you think you're best at?
the story telling aspect whilst rhyming you know? Just being able to create a story in my mind or get a life event from my life and incorporate it into a rhyme for the benefit of the readers, my writing always had a morale behind it
Now for a more challenging question, in your prediction, taking into account the mathamatics and scale, how much wood COULD a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood?
1...cause after all, I am number one...then again...no one can chuck me...back to the drawing board *sigh*
Am I the only one who thinks that 'chucking wood' sounds very masturbatory?
Well i was thinking of chuck norris...so yea i guess youre on your own
You were thinking of masturbating Chuck Norris?
NOOOO...man...uh...scratch that, everything. im still tired
You'd like to scratch Chuck Norris' back as he gently ran his fingers through your flowing locks? Anyways, do you think you'll ve venturing back into the topical battle fields in the future?
-____-
Did you just draw Ditto's face? http://bmgf.bulbagarden.net/attachments/f379/86977d1368039614-teapot-art-shop-ditto.png
yes i love Ditto. To be honest. I have no idea, i just found out that i still have that topical side in me, but i dont think the motivation i have now is enough to get a topical battling record. the tourney had a prize and i guess that was what motivated me to give this tourney a go. Hence im sure, that if there's another topical tourney sign-up, you'll see my name there
Me too (ditto), I'm a great laugh. Anyways, thanks for the interview man. Any last words before we go?
That fool that beat me will die lyrically with my lyrical hands and i will lyrically laugh.
Okay.

Next month, a large PPV will be put together, where we will also decide the first ever Letsbeef Topical Champion (usertitles to be changed to Grand Champion in the future)

Prelims

SkinEC Vs Fidel Z
SkinEC is known for his tracks, which usually contain a lot of self hype and bragging. He is stepping completely out of his comfort zone in order to become a better all round writer, and has accepted the opportunity to get on this card.
Fidel Z was the surprise of the competition for me in the topicals. He lost his Round 1 match in a close decision, but shows a lot of knowledge and skill, specifically revolving around imagery.
In this one, it’s hard to tell who will win. Fidel Z would be the usual underdog, but this is so out of SkinEC’s realm, that either could win.

Intricate Skillz Vs Storyteller
This match up marks the return of Intricate Skillz. In the 2011 tournament, he defeated Rhetorik en route to the semi finals. Due to some confusion, RhetoriK was brought back, defeating Intricate Skillz and taking the title. Intricate is sure to be bitter over this, with him defeated the eventual champ, and this time around he vows to make it the whole way.
Storyteller is no newcomer to topicals. With multiple championship reigns under his belt over the years, he is perhaps the most experienced writer we have on the entire card. Representing a long-time rival website of Letsbeef’s, FlowGodz, Story will definitely be the heel in this encounter.

Under Card

Punk Vs EtH
On the undercard, we have a rematch from 2 years ago of a topical battle which took place on Netcees. It was a terrible showing from both, with the battle ending due to insufficient votes. Now, both will strive to show what they can do, and that the previous encounter is not what people should expect from them in the future.
Punk, although defeated in Round 1 of the Anonymous Topical Tournament, secured a Battle of the Round credit to his name. He has been bouncing around a few other sites, perfecting his skills, and his aim is to make a big statement over his popular opponent.
Letsbeef’s most experienced topical writer, EtH has won several championships around the internet. With his only Letsbeef merit being a semi finals spot, you can be sure that he will have his eyes set on capturing the LB topical championship. After a long bout of inactivity however, it can be expected that the rust will creep through.

Topical Tutorial Part 1: Introduction

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The basics to a topical...

1. Staying On Topic
Staying on topic is key to a topical. Be sure each of your lines ties into the topic, or builds up towards it, or reflects it in some way. It's just like battling, you shouldn't include fillers that have nothing to do with your verse and detract from the overall flow, message, and consistency. There should be a reason behind dropping each of your lines.

2. Flow and Vocabulary
These two elements are key to a strong and effective topical verse. Your flow should be smooth and on point. It's always a plus to use inners, and even better to use multis. (This will be elaborated later). However, do not force the flow and use words that don't necessarily tie into the complexity of the verse or the overall topic. This is where vocabulary comes into play. The way you use your words and put them together not only helps with the flow, but also with everything else, such as staying on topic, imagery, and metaphors. Choose your words wisely.

3. Imagery
Imagery is important to a topical verse, especially if it pertains to the topic. Some topics may be harder to use imagery with, but most are not. Imagery is basically using strong words to paint a picture in the minds of reader. This not only makes your verse seem better and more complex, but it helps with conveying your message or topic. Detailed descriptions may enhance this aspect of your verse. Paint a picture with words.

4. Metaphors and Complexity
This is the hardest and most complex aspect of a topical verse. Often, regular readers will not catch metaphors, but most experienced topical critics will. By dictionary definition, a metaphor is: A figure of speech in which a term is transferred from the subject it ordinarily designates to one it can designate only by implicit comparision or analogy, as in the phrase evening of life. This is a difficult concept to grasp, but when perfected, can create wonders out of your pieces. Metaphors create complex verses and often convey strong images and messages to the reader...it is mostly meant to be deep and thought provoking.
