Strategies for word fission/fusion wordplay?

Workin on a lil how-to video but then I realized I don't really have a strategy for coming up with this type of wordplay. It just comes to me sometimes. Figured I'd see if y'all have any formulas for it.

I don't think there's really a formula.. you just have to have knowledge of the language and homophones.. then, like you said, it just comes to you when you look at words/phrases.

I just brain storm words with multiple syllables then think if they can make different words.

There isn't an exact formula, it just comes down to your ability of breaking down words and bending them. My best wordplay usually just hits me.
