@IV I can't really speak on how things are across the pond but in America we like to pretend that the civil rights movement worked and racial equality is the new norm but the reality is that that is just not the case. Institutional racism is deeply ingrained in the make up of our country. People (especially white people) like to sweep it under the rug but if you don't intentionally put your blinders on it becomes disgustingly apparent. Look at the dude that shot up the church in Charlston. That white boy was clearly mentally ill, right? No, he was a terrorist, but because he had lilly white skin he is labled as sick. If he was Muslim the headlines read terrorist. If he was black the headlines read thug. Part of the equality problem is that white people won't address these issues because they don't want their privilege hurt. I'm white, and I admit I probably have biases and flaws, but I try to get it, and try to think bilaterally, but I still can't grasp the depth of the issue. Shit is fuckin crazy.
